I grew up in an artist family. Early influences were my father’s work – no mean cartoonist himself – Saul Steinberg the great New Yorker cartoonist, Rowland Emett, W. Heath Robinson and, primarily, the brilliant Punch contributor H. M. Bateman. No one could portray movement in the body or mad anger better. I remained quite ignorant of Russel Brockbank until years later when I began to pen my first car-inspired cartoons.
